The Johor Chingay Parade (柔佛古庙众神巡游) is a 150‑year‑old tradition and one of Johor Bahru’s most iconic Chinese New Year celebrations.
Each year, the five deities of Johor Old Temple (柔佛古庙五尊神明) — Zhao Da Yuan Shuai (赵大元帅), Hua Guang Da Di (华光大帝), Gan Tian Da Di (感天大帝), Hong Xian Da Di (洪仙大帝), and Guan Yin Bodhisattva (观音菩萨) — are paraded through the streets, symbolizing “Gods walking with the people” (神与人同行).
The 2026 edition will span five days (6–10 March), featuring grand floats, dragon and lion dances, cultural performances, and Taoist deity processions. The event attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators annually and is actively promoted for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage recognition.
